TO THOSE WHO ARE SAD
BY Dr. Harold Hammond
This is a special message to those of you out there who are sick, shut-in, alone, sad and heart-broken. For many of you, Christmas is not a happy time but a sad and lonely time.
As I write this, I am praying for you to receive a touch from God. Nothing else will help.
He is the only One who knows our troubles and the heavy burdens that we carry in our hearts. But he has promised to be with us in a special way in times like these. God still speaks to us today and I know that you long to hear his voice. First of all, God wants you to pray, pray, pray and then pray some more. Pray alone, pray with friends and family, with your pastor and church brothers and sisters. And don't just pray for yourself and your own pain, but pray for others like yourself who are alone and sad. God hears your prayers, he always hears your prayers. He may change the circumstances of your life which cause you pain, or he may not. But he does promise to be close to you and give you the strength to carry on another day. Jesus says to tell you to come to him, all you that labor and are heavy-laden with burdens too big to carry. He will give you rest, he will give you comfort. He will refresh you.
Some of you, this very day, have thought of taking your own life. Don't do it! Hang on another hour, another day. This earth is not our home. We are pilgrims here in this vale of tears. Heaven is our home. And, in heaven, there will be no sin or sorrow, no pain and no more death. Death is but a step through a door into God's House. Hang on, you can do it.
Pray, read your Bible. Call on somebody to help you. Friends, family, pastor, church members. If you don't have a church or pastor, look in the phone book and find a Bible-believing church. Call them and ask for help. Jesus says that, in his Father's House, there are many mansions and he has gone before us to prepare a place there for us, and that we will be there with him forever.
As I pray for you, I see that there are some of you who have been alienated from a friend or loved one for a long time. It may be a father or mother, or a son or daughter. Swallow your pride and call them up. Get back together. You don't want to die with all these loose ends.
Some of you have been treated very badly and have been hurt very deeply. Jesus says that those of you who cry and are sad will be comforted. You are blessed when people revile and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely for Jesus' sake.
Don't be alone. Reach out and call someone. Knock on a neighbor's door. Find a Christian to pray with you.
You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Nothing in this world can separate you from the love of God, through Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas and blessings in the holy name of Jesus,
Dr. Hammond
